Delta Mudd

"From Swamp to Swing…and in between."

Delta Mudd digs up earthy Delta-style Blues, mixes it with some Chicago-style swing and then dusts it all with some sweltering East Texas rhythm. Their feel for the blues is real and gritty. Combined with saucy original material, Delta Mudd sprinkles in Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy II, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, for a new sound that pays homage to the past.

Delta Mudd's core is made up of Brian Wilkinson on guitar and Pat "Jawbone" Kenyon on harp. This duo brings over 40 years of musical experience to the stage with 15 of those years having played together in some form or fashion including sharing time in the bands Bone Dance and Silverdaddies.

Wilkinson began his playing around age nine when "…my father bought me a guitar and a Mel Bay chord book." At 15, he began playing bass and spent some time playing in his church and dabbling in country music. By the time Wilkinson had turned 19 he had re-discovered his old six string. Things were different though. The acoustic guitar had gone electric and his music had changed from country to blues. Wilkinson transfers a deep emotion into his guitar and vocals to create a distinct sound forged by years on the road and baptized by the fire of Texas-style blues.

Kenyon’s influences go back to the age of four when he would sit in his grandfather’s lap listening to him sing and play harmonica. Eventually, Kenyon, known as "Jawbone" or "J-Bone" in the music circles, would receive that very harmonica as a gift from his father. "Music is a link to my forebears", he says with a big, wide grin. Kenyon began playing harp, trying to mimic Bob Dylan and Neil Young. It wasn’t long before he discovered the blues of Sonny Terry, James Cotton and Sonny Boy Williamson II. Kenyon can be found sitting in on local jam sessions when Delta Mudd has a rare night off.

If you are looking for some solid Delta-style blues with a Texas twist, then the Delta Mudd is it. Whether they perform as an acoustic duo or they are backed by their barrelhouse rhythm section, Delta Mudd is sure to leave you howling for more.
