The Unknown Legends Musician’s Relief Fund
One of the primary goals of the Unknown Legends Artists talent agency is promote Hot Springs and Arkansas music. "We started booking music with two acts and we’ve grown to around a dozen not including an array of musicians we try to help as needed", says David Hughes, co-owner of the agency. "As we began to get to know more and more musicians we realized there were some other needs out there. Many of these artists do not have insurance for health care and no way to take care of expenses if they are sick or injured. We decided after a fundraiser for a close friend in the fall of 2005 that there needed to be something more permanent that Arkansas musicians could count on when times got hard. So was born the Unknown Legends Musician’s Relief Fund."
The Unknown Legends Musician’s Relief Fund is a non-profit entity that is used to assist eligible Arkansas musicians and their families with health care and medical expenses. The fund operates similar to other funds that are based on a national level. Unknown Legends Artists co-owner, Sherree Hughes, comments, "There are a couple of national relief funds and we’ve gotten them in touch with musicians in this area. This fund will be directed specifically toward Arkansas musicians and their needs."
The fund will be supervised by a state wide board of directors. "We are trying to get representation from all areas of the state" Sherree Hughes continues. "We have someone from Hot Springs, Little Rock and Fort Smith at the moment but we need a few more people to step up to the plate."
Arkansas musicians will be able to apply for funds to assist with health care and medical expenses. The board of directors will review applications and make a determination based on the amount of funds available and the musician’s level of need.

When these folks play their music they give the rest of us with a little piece of their soul" David Hughes says. "This fund is a way for those of us who appreciate what they do to give something back."
